The Directory features easy navigation, lots of searchable features, up-to-date listings for all active DBA members and law firms! You can search fellow law school alumni or find a DBA member in a specific area of practice -- or one that speaks Swahili! An added benefit is you can access the directory from your Blackberry, iPhone or hand-held mobile device. Invite members to an event or inform them of an address change by purchasing DBA membership labels. For information, contact Teddi Rivas. All members are invited to attend the DBA Investiture ceremony of Judge James M. Stanton of the 134th Civil District Court on Thursday, July 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Belo with a reception immediately following. If you have never been to the Bench Bar Conference, now is the time! MISCELLANEOUS U.S. DISTRICT COURT LOCAL RULES -- AMENDED Special Order No. 2-70 pertaining to the adoption of amended local rules (civil and criminal) for the Northern District of Texas has been posted at the court’s Web site. Unless modified, the rules become effective September 1, 2009. Wireless Internet service is available for attorneys in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Ten of the courtrooms in Dallas have wireless access points (WAPs). These access points provide free and unlimited access to the Internet. Since the wireless connection is unencrypted, it is not advisable to transmit private communications using this service. Additionally, an attorney may only connect to the Internet with permission of the presiding judge during any court proceeding. For more information, contact Terry Murphy at 214-753-2223. Reports of an Internet scam targeting attorneys nationwide have come to the attention of the DBA. The targeted law firm often receives a referral from someone alleging to be an out-of-state lawyer, asking for assistance with enforcing a simple contract dispute or collect a debt from a local corporation. Click here for more information. The Belo Mansion is a busy place with multiple section and committee meetings every day. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early, carpool, or walk if you can to Belo. This will help us accommodate as many members as possible in our garage. Our fee remains $3 per car for DBA members. |
